One of the first questions brides ask me is: “Is the trial included?” At MakeupByEkam, the honest answer is no. Bridal packages cover wedding (and multi-function) service; the trial is a separate, paid decision stage. That is intentional — not a hidden upsell.
This journal post explains why I keep trials outside the package, what a useful trial day actually looks like in my Janakpuri studio workflow, and how you can prepare so the ₹3,000 trial (current 2026–2027 season) gives you real clarity. For booking mechanics and adjustment policy, the dedicated bridal trial page and bridal makeup packages remain the source of truth.
First, what a bridal trial is for (and what it is not)
A trial is not a rehearsal of your entire wedding morning with hair, draping, jewellery, family chaos, and venue lighting all at once. Trying to force that into one short session usually creates false confidence or false panic.
At MakeupByEkam, a trial is for:
- Experiencing my hand on your skin — texture, pigmentation, undertone, features
- Testing intensity (soft glam vs traditional bridal weight)
- Understanding communication — how we decide together
- Checking whether HD, Airbrush, or a hybrid direction feels right for you
- Leaving with a clearer brief for wedding day — not a hundred open tabs of doubt
A trial is not:
- A free sample to compare five artists in one week without commitment
- An automatic hold on your wedding date
- A promise that wedding-day timing, hair height, and draping will be identical down to the millimetre
Date confirmation still follows booking advance — see packages for payment structure. I generally accept one bride per day, so calendar honesty matters as much as makeup honesty.
Why trials are not included in bridal packages
1. Packages price the wedding service, not the decision stage
Our Delhi NCR bridal packages (Wedding Day Bridal ₹35,000; Wedding + Engagement ₹56,000; Wedding + Haldi + Engagement ₹65,000) are built around complete bridal styling on event day(s): makeup, hair, draping, jewellery setting, skin consult, and look coordination. Outstation work starts higher because travel and logistics change. Including a trial “for free” would blur two different services: exploration and execution.
I would rather price the wedding day clearly than bury trial cost inside a headline number that makes comparison impossible.
2. A paid trial protects seriousness — on both sides
A trial uses studio time, products, and focused attention. When every enquiry expects a complimentary full face “just to see,” artists either rush or overbook. I do not overbook bridal days. A paid trial keeps the room for brides who are genuinely considering MakeupByEkam.
If you later confirm a bridal booking with us, current policy adjusts the ₹3,000 trial against the booking amount. You are not “losing” the fee if we are the right fit — you are sequencing it correctly.
3. Not every bride needs a trial
Some brides are decisive after portfolio review and a clear consultation chat. Others have sensitive skin, strong preferences, or family pressure around “more makeup / less makeup” and benefit from seeing a direction on their face first. Making trial compulsory and package-bundled would force the wrong process on everyone.
Optional + paid + adjustable on booking = cleanest model for an artist-led brand.
4. Canada-trained process, India bridal reality
My training and seven years of experience taught me that trials work best as diagnostic sessions, not complimentary marketing gifts. Indian bridal calendars are dense — Haldi, engagement, wedding, reception — and the look language shifts. A focused trial helps us lock a philosophy, not photocopy one Pinterest face onto every function.

What happens on a useful trial day
While exact flow can vary by bride, a strong trial day usually includes:
- Brief intake — skin history, allergies, preferred intensity, function type
- Reference edit — we narrow 5–8 useful images, not 80 screenshots
- Base and finish exploration — including HD / Airbrush conversation where relevant
- Eye and lip direction — what photographs bridal without ageing or flattening features
- Honest feedback loop — what you love, what feels “not you”
- Notes for wedding day — so we are not reinventing under time pressure
Hair and full draping may be discussed or partially explored depending on time and need; the core job of the trial remains face + finish confidence. Complete wedding-day styling still lives inside the bridal makeup service.
How to prep for your paid trial (practical checklist)
One week before
- Keep skincare simple and familiar. Do not start a new active, peel, or facial experiment that could irritate skin right before we meet.
- Note any pigmentation, acne, rosacea, or contact lens habits.
- Share outfit colour families if known (even approximate). Jewellery photos help.
The day before
- Sleep. Hydrate. Skip heavy parties if your skin retaliates.
- Wash pillowcases if you are breakout-prone. Small things matter.
- Prepare references: face close-ups you like and dislike, plus one full-look inspiration for vibe — not a collage of conflicting celebrities.
Trial morning
- Arrive with a clean, moisturised face (unless we advise otherwise for a specific concern).
- Wear a neutral or outfit-similar top so colours read correctly.
- Bring or wear similar jewellery weight if possible — a light everyday stud and a heavy bridal set photograph differently against the same eye makeup.
- Come ready to say “too heavy,” “too soft,” or “this feels like me.” I prefer clear feedback to polite silence.
What to bring (short list)
- Phone references (edited set)
- Outfit / jewellery photos
- List of products you react to (if known)
- Questions about wedding-day timeline, outdoor segments, tears, glasses, or sehra / veil moments
How to use trial results without overthinking
After the trial, take photos in daylight and indoor light. Ask:
- Does this still look like me when I soften my expression?
- Is the intensity right for my ceremony, not my cousin’s?
- Do I trust the process enough to book — or do I need a different artist’s language?
If MakeupByEkam is the fit, enquire with your date early. Peak Delhi NCR weekends move quickly. Package options and inclusions are on bridal makeup packages. Real finishes live in the portfolio.
Trial myths I hear every season
“If the trial is paid, the artist is not confident.”
Opposite. Confidence is showing the work under honest conditions and pricing time fairly.
“A free trial means better service.”
Free trials often mean rushed faces or high-volume booking funnels. My model is individual bridal attention.
“The trial look must be copied exactly on the wedding.”
We lock direction and maps — skin on wedding morning, outfit finalisation, and ceremony emotion can refine the same philosophy. Identical photocopy is rarely the goal; continuity with upgrades is.
“I should trial five artists.”
You can — but skin fatigue and decision fatigue are real. Two thoughtful trials beat five rushed ones.
How this connects to complete bridal styling
The trial answers: Is Ekam’s face language right for me?
The package answers: Who owns hair, draping, jewellery setting, and day-of coordination?
Makeup-only artists and complete-styling artists are different buys. We write about that distinction in a companion Journal draft on complete bridal styling. For academy-minded readers who want to learn bridal trial consultation skills, see Makeup Academy.
FAQ
Is a bridal makeup trial compulsory at MakeupByEkam?
No. It is optional. Book one if you want hands-on confidence before committing; skip it if portfolio, consult, and clarity already feel enough.
Why isn’t the trial included in the ₹35k / ₹56k / ₹65k packages?
Those packages price wedding (and multi-event) complete bridal styling. The trial is a separate decision-stage service. Keeping them separate keeps pricing honest and calendars sustainable.
How much is the trial, and is it adjusted later?
Current 2026–2027 trial fee is ₹3,000. If you subsequently confirm a bridal booking with MakeupByEkam, that amount is adjusted against the booking. Confirm live terms on the trial and packages pages when you enquire.
Does a trial reserve my wedding date?
No. A trial does not automatically hold the date. Dates confirm after the required booking advance per current payment terms.
How should I prepare references?
Bring a short, edited set: a few faces you love, one or two you dislike (useful!), outfit colour notes, and jewellery photos. Quality of references beats quantity.
Ready to book a trial — or skip straight to a date check?
If you want to experience the MakeupByEkam approach on your skin, enquire for a paid trial and share preferred dates. If you already know you want complete bridal styling, send your wedding date, functions, and location.
